We are excited for the rest of 2016 as we partner with the following Oahu schools on their Mele Murals:
- September – Castle High Schoolʻs Hooulu Opio Academy in Kaneohe that links classroom academics to Hawaiian culture-based activities.
- November – Robert Louis Stevenson Middle School servicing the Native Hawaiian community of Papakolea.
On Saturday, October 22nd, the Queen Liliuokalani Trust and HPM Building Supply will host the unveiling of “Maka ala,” – the 120 x 25 foot Mele Murals completed in July during the 1st Annual Mele Murals Aha. This special unveiling will coincide with O.N.O. Kona night market featuring local arts & crafts vendors, cultural demonstrations, live music, art and food trucks. Proceeds from this free, all-ages, community event will benefit future Mele Murals projects.
In other news, our after school program of Halau Paheona has started for Fall ʻ16 semester! Mural painting classes are continuing on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3-5pm at Kaimuki High School. If you know any students that are interesting in joining, reach out to our contact information below!
