Sheraton Kona Resort

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

The Mele Murals project at the Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay tells the stories of Keauhou’s royal heritage. We celebrate and honor the ali‘i by painting their ‘ahu ‘ula (feather capes), the symbols of power and royal social status.

Workshops and grounding sessions with the schools of Ke Kula ‘o ‘Ehunuikaimalino, Kanu o ka ‘Aina Learning Ohana, Konawaena High School, and Kealakehe High School bridged all of these schools together on the west side on the island of Hawai‘i.

Mele/Oli used in mural: “Aia Kahi Kapu Ola” and “Kai a ke Akua” by Kumu Keala Ching
