Usulután, El Salvador

In collaboration with Eco Viva and the Mangrove Association of the Bajo Lempa youth and local artists created a mural on a community space near the mangrove forest in the Bay de Jiquilisco. The mural portrays the Mangrove forests that line the coastal wetlands and provide local communities protection from hurricanes while removing massive amounts of carbon from the atmosphere. The trees are vital to the survival of fish, shrimp, birds, and sea turtles. The entire area is under threat of logging, expansion of plantations, and the mural is dedicated to the local community members who are standing up in defense of the trees and the ecosystem along the Bajo Lempa.
