SAVE THE PEAKS COALITION v. U.S. FOREST SERVICE
Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals
January 9, 2012
San Francisco, Ca
Defenders of the San Francisco Peaks in Northern Arizona traveled to California to rally as the Supreme Court held a hearing on the future of the mountain range that is held as sacred by 11 local tribes.
The Arizona Snowbowl Corporation opperates a ski report on top of the Mountain under a special use permit issued by the U.S. Forest Service. The Corporation has applied for a permit to pipe non-potable untreated reclaimed waste water up to the top of the mountain to make fake snow.
The Save the Peaks Coalition is suing the Forest Service for allowing the company to desecrate and pollute the mountain and runoff water. They brought up concerns for their children’s health, the skiers, the land, and the water shed.
