2024 Mele Murals Fall Program
2024
As students learned about the characteristics of an aliʻi, they also reflected on the ʻōlelo noʻeau that emphasized their role as caretakers of the land and their responsibilities to nurture Papahānaumokuakea (Earth Mother).
The program featured a culture-focused arts curriculum that celebrated Hawaiian traditions, helping students strengthen their sense of belonging and connection to Hawai‘i. Participants explored the island’s rich culture by learning mele (poetry) primarily in ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i (native tongue), rooted in wahi pana (legendary places). They enjoyed presentations from special guest speakers, engaged in crafting activities, and practiced mindfulness techniques throughout the sessions. Overall, the program fostered a deeper appreciation for Hawaiian culture and the values of leadership and stewardship among the keiki.
