Our after school program Hālau Pāheona (School of Visual Arts) has completed it’s first semester offering arts & Hawaiian cultural classes at Kaimuki High School. We are already busy planning exciting new additions to our curriculum for the next fall semester as we become a part of Kaimuki High Schoolʻs school schedule! Mahalo to Aunty Lindsay Lander, Mike Bam Tyau, Kumu Kaleo Hanohano & Uncle Estria for all your kokua in bringing free art & Hawaiian cultural classes back to Kaimuki!
In Mele Murals news, students from Blanche Pope Elementary school and Kaimuki High School united to paint their mural with the theme of “Hoomalu ia e na Liko” (Protected by the Children) in April. On July 11th – 15th, we are launching MOKU – 1st Annual Mele Murals ʻAha at Kona International Marketplace and Kona HPM Building Supply.
MOKU will bring together indigenous artists, cultural practitioners, community leaders and business owners that collectively support and nurture the Mele Murals process of ‘Aina-Based, Ike-Based and Na‘au-Based education.
