Mele Murals – Intersession

Mele Murals Intersession Program is where student participants learn navigation, the ahupua’a system, cultivation, Hawaiian games, mindfulness, chants, and will express their mana’o through art as the next generation of visual storytellers.

Program Goals

Our Mele Murals Intersession program is a unique educational experience that blends the rich cultural heritage of Hawaiʻi with artistic expression. This program immerses students in traditional and contemporary Hawaiian art forms, such as stamping, lauhala weaving, dying, hula-inspired storytelling, mele (music), and so much more. It also integrates fine arts like painting, sculpture, and drawing, often influenced by the natural beauty and spiritual significance of the islands.

Through hands-on learning, mentorship from Native Hawaiian practitioners, and cultural excursions, participants gain a deeper understanding of Hawaiʻi’s history, mythology, and indigenous aesthetics. Our program fosters creativity, cultural appreciation, and a connection to the land (‘āina) and ocean (kai).
